Use and Detection of Ergogenic Aids in High School Athletes

This discussion will inform pharmacists about the growing concern of ergogenic aid use in the adolescent population. The talk will cover the most common substances used by high school students and briefly discuss the process of detecting their use by drug tests.

Why is Pharmacy Such a Pain in the Neck?

To help pharmacists recognize and avoid the hazards that can contribute to ergonomic-related illnesses (ERI’s), we will explore potential modifications to existing routines and settings to minimize exposures to ergonomic risk factors. The benefits and limitations of medical devices in the mitigation of ERI’s will also be discussed. The presenter will attempt to arm pharmacists with enough information to advise their patients in the at-home care of such illnesses.
- Recognize the risks for developing Ergonomic-Related Illnesses (ERI’s) within the retail pharmacy setting and understand the progression of many ERI’s
- Identify and implement specific practices to minimize personal and personnel exposure to ERI risks
- Apply knowledge about ERI’s and physiology to merchandising decisions for retail pharmacies

The Idaho Drug Utilization Review Program: Past, Present, and Future

This presentation will provide background information on the Drug Utilization Review (DUR) Program in Idaho, highlight key DUR program differences between Idaho and other states, review selected intervention and outcome study findings, and encourage practicing pharmacists to participate in Idaho DUR activities.
- Become familiar with the Idaho Drug Utilization Review (DUR) Program, and compare its activities with those of other states’ programs
- Understand the process by which claims data are collected and analyzed and how this information is used to improve patient care and decrease Idaho Medicaid costs
- Evaluate the educational mission of the DUR program for Idaho healthcare professionals, cite examples of intervention studies, and find out how to become an active participant in DUR activities
