Student Technology
The college of pharmacy, in conjunction with ISU's Family Medicine
group, operates it's own computer network services much like many
colleges and departments on campus. Our primary server is called
"OTC", and the network is often refered to as the "OTC
Network". It offers many services ranging from auto-configuration
of wireless laptops to secure web-based e-mail and custom mailing
lists. The following items explain some of the major features of
the network, but you may also find information in the Current
Students page or in the Networking FAQ page.
About Backups
All home ("F drive") and group network drives are backed
up every night. These backups are rotated on a weekly basis, which
allows us to retrieve files selectively through time, and ensure
that if a file becomes corrupted we can go back to a last-known-good
state of the file. It is strongly recommended that all important
files be placed on the network drives because hard disks, floppy
disks, and zip disks are prone to fail -- don't be caught in that
situation.
Accessing OTC from Computer Center Machines
You can access your home drive, and the group drives from any
computer on campus (eg, from the library or the basement BA computer
lab) by following these
instructions.
Change Your OTC Account Password
Log into Pharmail
Click on options at the top
Click on Change Password
Put in your old password once and your new password twice
Click Submit
You should receive a message that your password has been changed.
Dial-In Networking with COP's Network
After dialing into the campus network (call 282-4585 for more
information about doing so), you can access your "F drive"
from your home PC or Macintosh. For details, see the networking
FAQ.
E-Mail for your Home Computer
You can connect to the pharmacy mail server either through pharmail
or by setting up a client program on your computer. Instructions
for setting up an e-mail program are found here.
Forwarding E-Mail
Forwarding Your Pharmacy E-Mail Account
Instructions for forwarding your pharmacy e-mail account can
be found on the FAQ page
Technology Work Queue
In order to keep track of technology problems and issues, the
COP network runs a technology
helper queue which allows you to submit requests. As a convenience,
you can simply enter otc/queue into any on-campus web
browser to get to that page.
"Vacation" E-Mail Responder
The server is able to respond
to your e-mail while you are indisposed (on vacation, out
of town, etc.). Each sender will only recieve one reply, regardless
the number of times they mail you, and it will not send mail to
mailing lists if they are setup correctly, as most are.
Wireless Networking
The college of pharmacy is equipped with a high-speed wireless
network, for information about using it please visit
the wireless website.
