Student Technology
The college of pharmacy, in conjunction with ISU's Family Medicine
group, operates it's own computer network services much like many
colleges and departments on campus. Our primary server is called
"OTC", and the network is often refered to as the "OTC
Network". It offers many services ranging from auto-configuration
of wireless laptops to secure web-based e-mail and custom mailing
lists. The following items explain some of the major features of
the network, but you may also find information in the Current
Students page or in the Networking FAQ page.
About Backups
All home ("H drive") and group network drives are backed
up every night. These backups are rotated on a weekly basis, which
allows us to retrieve files selectively through time, and ensure
that if a file becomes corrupted we can go back to a last-known-good
state of the file. It is strongly recommended that all important
files be placed on the network drives because hard disks, floppy
disks, and zip disks are prone to fail -- don't be caught in that
situation.
Accessing OTC from Computer Center Machines
You can access your home drive, and the group drives from any
computer on campus (eg, from the library or the basement BA computer
lab) by following these
instructions.
