Notes for William Stevens Cady
Steve was my only brother. He was 5 years younger than me and the baby of the family. He was a carefree boy and never really settled down, He loved fun and was a great mixer. We were not real close when at home but shared the same room till I left home for good. Steve played and I worked. When World War 11 came along he enlisted in the Navy and was trained as a radar operator as it had just been perfected. He went all through the Pacific war, just lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. When he got out of the Navy, he used the veteran benefits and went through Engineering college at the University of Colorado. While in school, he met his wife, Chris, and he graduated and was again drafted into the Navy. He soon got out and got a job with Sperry in guided missile work and mostly secret work that we never will know about. He was a jolly fellow and loved to eat and drink and laugh. He had many close friend at work. He loved to cook and was the chief cook on our river trips. They had two girls and Steve did most of the raising as Chris became very introverted. Steve , Shirley and I had many, many good times together and he was very close to us. We went to Mexico several times and he spent months with us in Grants, N.M. before he was married. After marriage, he would stop with us ever time he had a chance. Cris was never involved. We became third owner of a river running raft with him and his buddy and we spent many days on the rivers of Utah and Idaho. Steve developed a heart problem and almost died. He spent a month with us while getting well and we vacationed with him on the Coast and he went home. Two months later he died on his way home from a river trip. We always felt cheated because Shirley and I were planning a lot of things with him when he retired. We keep in touch with his wife and two daughters who live in Bountiful, Utah. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Steve is buried in a nice cemetery in central Bountiful, Utah, across from a Mormon Church. His stone in right on the driveway to the cemetery office and says William S. Cady, Sept 23, 1923 - June 15, 1985
