Notes for Lois Adelaide Jones
Had 8 children. From 150 YEARS IN THE HILLS AND DALES VOL 1 She was the first white girl born in Hillsdale Co. Michigan. She lived in Jonesville all her life. She feared Indians all her life because of early experiences. She and her husband had five daughters and this family were the only members of the Original Family to remain in Jonesville. Pg 220 Lois Jones was educated attended public schools in Jonesville and resided there until she was twenty years old. in 1851 she went to Texas with her brother, Dr. Leonidus M. Jones. , to visit her father. She married, in Texas, a Mr. Gray of Missouri and went to reside in Missouri. Mr. Gray died within a year of their marriage. Mrs Grey returned to Jonesville. In 1854, she married Henry O. Clark who died in October 1895. Pg 107 Vol 2- Lois Jones, her mother, was the owner of Fayette House in the early thirties, and was known from Detroit to Chicago for her many kindnesses to the travelers along the Chicago road. ---------------------------------------------------------------- From notes of R.M.Powers Jr. She was married to Daniel Grey by her father, Benaiah 111,as he was Justice of Peace., Grey died within one year of their marriage and Lois went back to Jonesville.She was back in Jonesville, a widow, by 5 Feb 1854 and married H.O. Clark on that date. When Benaiah died he left her $ 50.00
