Notes for Benaiah 1_st Jones
He married and settled in Hebron, Conn. where he and his wife raised a large family. His eldest son was Benaiah 2 nd. ----------------------------------------------------------------- From JONES, MOORE, ALLEN FAMILIES by Vivian Lyon Moore. Benaiah Jones 1 st was very considerate of his wife and in his will and painstakingly provided for her comfort stating " the improvement of the one third part of all my lands and one third of the barns and the north great room and chamber and garret in the north end of the dwelling house and the bed room in the southeast corner and the cellar under it and such privileges in the buttery and kitchen as to make up to her the one half of said house during her natural life. And of my personal estate my great bible and two feather beds with their under beds and proper furniture and other household goods so much as shall be necessary for her to keep house with a cow and a half score of sheep to be her own. And it is my further will and pleasure that my said wife shall have the liberty to cut so much wood on the wood land that may be set out to her on her third as shall be sufficient to support her own fire and no more.: It is worthy of note that a woman had no title even to the bed in which she slept except at her husband's will and pleasure. --------------------------------------------------------------- From Jones Genealogy - The family claim that Benaiah Jones 1 served in the French and Indian War and his descendants have used stories of his experiences as topics for school themes, but the official record of the service has not been found. Benaiah Jones 1 removed to Hinesdale, Mass. in the winter of 1799 -1800 I Feb 1807 Benaiah 11 wrote to his brother Elkanah saying " our honored father has got to be old and brakes very fast We can see that he fails fast this winter. -----------------------------------------------------------------
