Reporting Hours
Students will accrue approximately 1980 hours from IPPEs and APPEs during the course of pharmacy. States vary in the amount of practical pharmacy hours a student must complete to become a licensed pharmacist. For example, Idaho requires student pharmacists to have 1740 hours while Alaska requires 1500 hours. Other states may require 2000 or more hours. Students are encouraged to report paid or unpaid non-IPPE/APPE extern hours to the College of Pharmacy using the form below. Submit the form within 30 days from the ending date of the training period. If working for an extended period of time, please report your hours at least every 6 months. Please send your completed form to Cassandra Tack at ctack@pharmacy.isu.edu
Out of State Information
Student pharmacists who wish to obtain extern hours at pharmacy practice sites outside of Idaho are responsible for registering with that state’s board of pharmacy and learning about and following the laws in that state. In general, extern hours obtained in another state will count towards an Idaho or Alaska pharmacist license. Contact the state board to familiarize yourself with their laws. A list of Pharmacy Boards may be found on the National Association Boards of Pharmacy site under “Boards of Pharmacy”. Of note, these hours will not be eligible for IPPE without special permission from OEE.
